A Black Moon Scrying Bath Ritual
Many witches and spiritualists alike know the new moon as a time for planting the seed of intention- but the Black Moon is a whole different beast. Rare, potent, and cloaked in moody, sexy mystery, the Black Moon supercharges your inner vision and opens energetic doorways to the unseen.
Think of it as a vibey and potent moment to connect with and harness intuition: a rare-ish lunar moment that makes scrying, divination, and shadow-work rituals more electrified than usual. In this post, I’m going to give you a suggested “base recipe” and practice to connect with this energy through a Black Moon scrying ritual that helps you tap into clarity, creativity, and the deeper layers of your psyche.
What is Scrying?
Scrying is one of the oldest forms of divination- the art of gazing into a reflective surface (water, mirrors, crystals, smoke) until your mind shifts into a liminal, receptive state. It’s less about “seeing the future” and more about accessing the unconscious and letting symbols, visions, or feelings rise up from beneath the surface of your awareness. Perfect for connecting to your inner voice and intuition, and bypassing the “logic brain”.
Why Use Bath Rituals For Scrying?
Bath scrying combines ritual with relaxation. When you sink into warm water infused with herbs, milk, and oils, your body relaxes and your psychic channels loosen, allowing you to bypass the “psychic censor” that can gatekeep your intuition and have you gaslighting yourself into thinking too logically. Water itself has always been a portal symbol- think mirrors, wells, rivers- and in a bath you’re literally immersing yourself in that emotive and transformational element. Add the Black Moon energy, and you’ve got a container that heightens intuition, dreamwork, and shadow integration while also being deeply nourishing to your nervous system.
When using a bath MILK recipe, cloudy swirls and patterns emerge in the water, giving a focal point for visualization and intuitive divination.
Black Moon Herbal Scrying Milk Bath Ritual Recipe and Instructions
If you have read my books or taken my programs, you will know that I like to ensure that everything is SIMPLE + ACTIONABLE + ACCESSIBLE. I really do not think you need to have a million tools and ingredients to do magic. So for this, I am giving you a loose, adaptable Black Moon ritual recipe you can try at home:
Bath Blend Base
In a large bowl mix:
1 cup powdered whole milk
¼ cup baking soda
¼ cup cornstarch
Oil & Scent Mix
In an additional small bowl mix:
1.5–2 tbsp carrier oil (like grapeseed or sweet almond)
8–12 drops essential oils in grounding, deep scents* — I love cedarwood or pine blended with bergamot or rose
Herbal Add-Ins (choose your magic)
Mix the 2 bowls above, and then add the following:
Blue lotus (if you have it, it’s powerful for dreamwork and scrying)*
Mugwort (classic for divination and psychic clarity)*
Chamomile, lavender, rose, or lemon balm (calming and heart-opening)*
*NOTE: Anything with this asterix can be improvised with what you have on hand. Feel free to listen to your intuition!
Ritual Instructions
Run a tub and set the intention that it will be a container for connecting to your wisdom and intuition. Place a scoop of your blend in a muslin bag, reuseable teabag, or nut milk bag (trust me on this unless you want to call a plumber later 😂). Stir this in clockwise, asking to call in your intuitive guidance.
Sink in, breathe, and let the Black Moon work her strange magic while you soften your senses for scrying, divination, or journaling visions that come through. Because this uses bath MILK, a cloudy, floating pale film energes on the surface of the water that swirls and moves, and is great for “seeing” images (much like cloud gazing). This is why I often suggest Bath Milk recipes for shadow bathing, and for scrying/channeling.
Happy Black Moon To All!
The Black Moon is rare, but that’s what makes this practice so potent. Use this ritual to drop into your body, quiet the noise, and open a psychic channel that everyday life usually drowns out. Whether you use the energy for scrying, lucid dreamwork, shadow exploration, or simply deep rest, it’s a chance to sync up with one of the most liminal lunar moments we get!
