“Witchy” Books I Love!!

As a secular/intuitive witch, I actually base the majority of my practice on my own self knowledge and a lot of my spells, rituals, etc. have been influenced by an eclectic mishmash of my personal history and experiences.

For example:

  • Things I studied in school when I was getting my psychology degree (this includes all the electives I took on world religions, shamanism, and alternative fringe spiritual movements)

  • My career working with developmentally disabled adults and using sensory strategies etc. to influence mood and vibes

  • Stuff that clicked for me or downloaded via psychedelics, channeling, or through intuition

However, even though I am not a "witch book" person (except on the author end lol), there are a few books that I find myself recommending over and over again!

Highly reccommend my books (obviously)

Some of these books are not technically/specifically witch books, but if they're on this list it's because they influenced my practice in a big way regardless!

PLEASE NOTE THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED ON AN ONGOING BASIS WHEN I REMEMBER ONES I'VE FORGOTTEN TO INCLUDE OR IF I FIND NEW ONES 💫

  • Next up is The Kybalion: A Study of The Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece by the Three Initiates. Most witchy/spiritual teachings have root in the 7 Hermetic Principles which are outlined in this book. I've heard that the Corpus Hermeticum: The Divine Pymander is better from a "source purist" perspective but I haven't read it yet so can't vouch for it. I will say that I am decidedly NOT a purist, so I love the Kybalion regardless as it just intuitively makes sense.

  • Liber Null & Psychonaut: An Introduction to Chaos Magic is a wonderful book to get acquainted with the principles of chaos magic. A lot of people assume chaos magic is just being "chaotic" as a witch, but the chaos paradigm is actually a specific approach to magic. I identify as a chaos witch. However, I also don't fully adhere to these principles as I don't like many frameworks except my own loose “witchcraft therapy” framework. However, this descriptor does fit (as does eclectic, secular, or intuitive descriptions), so I use it because it's just simple!

  • While not technically a "witch book", my most used witchy book is Boreal Herbal Wild Food and Medicine Plants of the North. I believe a local plant guide is the witchiest book you can have lol! This one is great for my area, but if it doesn't suit yours, I'm sure there will be something similar!

  • Next up is one of my absolute favorite books on magic: Six Ways: Approaches & Entries for Practical Magic by Aidan Wachter. This one is a must have for those who are seeking to approach life in a magical way! It's also one of the few books written that will speak to the eclectic, secular, misfit practitioners.

  • And of course, another book by Aidan Wachter I love is “Weaving Fate: Hypersigils, changing the Past and Telling True Lies”. This is an absolute MUST READ for those who love psychology and mindset magic!

  • This next one is not a "witch book" but it is achingly beautiful all about approaching nature and our place within it from a place of reverence and wonder. I literally cried like a baby reading this on the beach lol. It is inspiring and heartbreaking and wonderful. I cannot reccommend it enough! The book is called Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants. It marries myth, folklore, storytelling and science in the most perfect of ways. Truly a MUST READ!

  • A great book about archetypes and the shadow straight from the source is Carl Jung’s Man and His Symbols. It covers the shadow, the collective unconscious and also different sorts of archetypes in a way that is accessible even if you don't have a psychology background. I highly recommend it if you're seeking source info on those concepts!

  • Speaking of Jung, how about his infamous Red Book- not an easy read but the substitute title in my mind is “Carl Jung Trips Balls Down Imagination Lane”- essentially… I love it!

  • If you’re looking for a great essentials of occultism book that’s kinda like an encyclopedia/reference book, Manly T. Hall’s “The Secret Teachings of All the Ages” is a classic. Again- not a light breezy read but it is SO full of info

  • Animal Speak by Ted Andrews is the book I run to whenever I have a weird or uncommon run-in with an animal or creature. It has tons of animal correspondences and spiritual meanings, and for this reason it is my go-to guide for this purpose.

  • Pronoia Is the Antidote for Paranoia: How the Whole World Is Conspiring to Shower You with Blessings by Rob Brezny is also a spiritual book favorite. It’s an excellent frequency-shift for those who could use a reminder of just how miraculous all this shit is

  • If you are curious what kind of psychic/intuitive you are, Discover Your Psychic Type is an excellent resource for finding out the unique way your channels are open and how to develop and work with them

This is by far not an exhaustive list! To find more that I do NOT have listed here that I love, check out my full “Witchy Books I Love” list on Amazon. I will be updating this post and that list on an ongoing basis!
